Umuaturu is a village in Etche Local Government Area Rivers State Nigeria.The Umuaturu people are from Umuoye Etche and speak their own language. Umuaturu community include,umuokere,umunwaokwu,umuokoroafor,umujim/umuliga,umunwagwa.

HISTORY OF UMUATURU
Umuaturu is a community is Etche L.G.A Rivers State Nigeria.It was told that there where two brothers called Eke and Nkwo they where frustrated by their people of Umuoye which lead both of them to decide leaving their Father’s land to look for a peaful place where they can have a new home. They where good hunters and farmers while hunting after crossing the Ogu Ochie they find Ujim and Uliga they team together to form Umuaturu. This is the simple reason why Umuaturu man or woman can not marry to Umuoye .They still have those mutual relationships up to date.

Festival :
FESTIVALS IN UMUATURUUmuaturu normally have their festivals during November period they call their festival egwuji which means new yam festival.Umuaturu is under Mba clan ward 18.The Mba people refer them salves as Mba agwuru-ishi. During the new yam festival brothers and sisters abroad normally comes back home. Umuaturu people are very smart in wrestling most okolangba (best wrestler) comes from Umuaturu e.g Late Mr. Kenneth Ejimozor was one of the respected wrestlers during 90’s. After the wrestling at their ogbakoro (arena) everybody will go back to their various homes to celebrate with their visitors. Most common foods that are cooked that day are Okashi and egwisi soup, rice, paper soup, ogbakala. They drink tombo,kaka, bear while visitors may come with foreign wines. But presently their festivals has fade up due to so many churches in the community.

CHURCH IN UMUATURU
The first church in Umuaturu is the Roman Catholic Church which Umuaturu is the first community in Etche to become a parish. Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church Umuaturu Etche is the mother of all Catholic Churches in Etche Land. Anglican Church came second but could not attract many members as Catholic. Assembles Of God Church and other Churches came in now Umuaturu has more than 10 churches presently.

Umuaturu is a Christian community which %85 of them are Catholics unless travelers will know that Mosque is in existence. There is nothing like Mosque in Umuaturu till date.

BUS TRAIN UMUATURU
There are no bus train in Umuaturu but as soon as the construction of Okehi-Mba-Umuaturu-Akpoku-Obite roads(21 km plus bridge) is completed there will be a free flows of vehicles. This route will surely bring developments to Umuaturu, the contractor Marco Engineering ltd a project value of NGN 4,323,470,287 which stated 3rd December 2008 that was expected to end 3rd December 2010. When concluded Bus can pass through Aba,Port Harcourt to Lagos State. The present Govenor is doing his best to make sure that the project progress will be %100.

BANKS ATM IN UMUATURU
There is no bank none ATM in Umuaturu but they have their local ways of saving money. The most common way of saving money in Umuaturu is by joining a meeting as banks have directors and managers is the same in this kind of meetings but in a local way. A person can start investing with NGN 1,000 every Sunday then at the end of the year your total money will be given to you. They still use this method of banking system.

BUSINESS IN UMUATURU
In Umuaturu there are some business that sustain the people they are as follows;
a).fisher men, formally fisher men make a cool cash after selling their fish catches in Ogu-Ochie which is the boundary of Umuaturu and Apkoku people. Presently there are no more fish as it was in 80’s and 90’s which I will explain the reason why later.
b).hunters; the hunters make money after selling their bush meats.
c).farmers also make money because Umuaturu land is a fertile land it produce cassava, yam, vegetables, melons, plantain etc. Their farmers don’t use fertilizers and their products are among the best in Rivers State, Imo and Abi state. Their farmers make money after selling their products in their market called Eke-ogu which later changed by a priest to Eke-Udo.
d).palm fruits, they have mile and still produce palm oil locally. They make cash from palm oil and cannels after selling it out.
e).robber tree plantation, this create jobs for the people they realize some cash from the robber plantation.
f).sand, in the river of Ogu-Ochie there are three types of sand; soft sand, shaft sand and 3,8. Both men and youths benefit from this Ogu-Ochie sand. They have divers of sand the group make more money compare to the carriers of the sand and the suppliers mostly own the boats which the divers use to fetch the sand in a local way. This digging of sand is the reason why there is no more fish in Ogu-Ochie river than during the80’s and 90’s when the digging of sands where not in function.

LAND IN UMUATURU
Umuaturu has a large space of lands that contain University and companies but the land has not yet developed due to the distance from Port Harcourt the capital city of Rivers State as the present Governor has published the blue print of the greater Port Harcourt Umuaturu people hopes that soon their land will experience development.

MY EXPERIENCE ABOUT UMUATURUUmuaturu is a unique community among other communities in |Etche land. The community don’t inter marry despite the population. The gods which they believe are gods of justice Amdioha and Egbede .Amadioha headquarter is at Ozuzu while Egbede is their popularly known god and they believe that Egbede protects his children in terms of war and as far as you’re an indigene of Umuaturu you will never die in was front as a solder of the nation. Communities in Etche land have it in mind that who so ever that comes from Umuaturu is a street smart.
